While I can’t take credit for the clean, elegant and simple web design of The Bowdoin Group – a professional staffing and recruiting firm based out of Wellseley, MA; I can certainly admire and comment on it’s simplicity and effectiveness.
The Bowdoin Group website simply works for me. The navigation is clear and intuitive. The font family is readable. The logo and header is bold and impactful. In less than a minute, I know exactly what they do and whether I have landed on the right site or not. There is enough flash going on to make the site alive and less static. And, they have integrated social media in a very subtle but effective way.
In short, the web design is well done. The only shortfalls that I see and would recommend to The Bowdoin Group if I were their web consultant would be to:

Indeed, the most precious resource that we have in our lives is our time. It slips away every second like sand through an hour glass. As entrepreneurs, we are even more stressed because there are thousands of big and little things to do but sometimes only one or a handful of people available to accomplish these tasks and projects.
Add to that an entrepreneur with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (AADD) and you have a real problem staying on focus, staying on track and getting things done.
So, how does one quickly and easily prioritize our work and keep on track, particularly when we are our own boss?
Honestly, I’m not sure if Ben Franklin actually had a formula. But, he was certainly a Leonardo da Vinci Renassisance Man type of guy with a ton of memorable sayings like, “early to bed, early to rise…” and “a penny saved is a penny earned…” So, I’m presuming that a guy like Ben might have come up with a formula like this. Here it goes…
Assume that the level of effort is on a scale of 10 where 1 is easy and 10 is hard. Then, assume that the level of importance is also on a scale of 10 where 1 is most important and 10 is least important.
Next, brainstorm all of the big and little tasks that you have to accomplish … everything from applying for a logo at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to getting a PO Box to developing a set of proposals to changing the address on your Netflix account.
Task
---
Change address on Netflix
Order new business cards
Buy dry eraser and markers
Select and hire a “DC seo consultant”
Buy more stamps at Post Office
Initiate trademark online at USPTO
Proposal: ACE moving & storage
Proposal: X-gen solutions
Proposal: Wiley Coyote
Buy batteries AAA
Deposit checks in the bank

I hope that helps you stay on focus and accomplish the more important things in your life and business.
Vyoom: Where Social Activity is Rewarded! from Mark Takenaka on Vimeo.
As the world turns and the web evolves, Vyoom offers yet one more new spin on social networking, social media and search engine marketing. Their slogan or tagline, “Where social activity is rewarded: Get rewarded for the things you already do! Earn points for everyday social activities…”
Vyoom sports a nifty information video (above) embedded into their home page that helps to explain the concept. The video shows how Zane Zanzabar gets free products by surfing the web and socializing online. It sounds like a monetized/commercialized version of Facebook.
According to the video, you create a profile and use Vyoom’s R-Pilot System to navigate the site. Vyoom features social streaming, social search and easy filtering. Vyoom creates an environment where social trends and social behavior can be studied and, presumably, applied to retail, industrial design and manufacturing. Indeed, when “Zane creates a wish list of items he has alwasy wanted,” this give Vyoom insight as to one half of consumer demand. The other half of consumer demand, by the way, is Zane’s ability to pay for his wish list.
Anyway, sounds like an interesting concept and since privacy doesn’t really exist anymore, might as well win a few rewards while you do what you would have normally done on Facebook, AOL, Yahoo or Google anyway.
